The CSIRO this week announced a breakthrough in wireless technology, that promises greater and more effective use of bandwidth in the wireless spectrum.
It is claimed that this technology enables “multiple users to upload information at the same time, without reducing their individual systems’ data transfer rate of 12 Mbps.”
One interesting aspect of the technology is that it uses the old analog TV channels’ spectrum, which is about to become vacated as we start the conversion to digital tv and shut down the analog channels.
The upshot of this is that any property that can currently receive TV signals could conceivably connect to high-speed internet just by using a new set-top box.
