In some Asian cultures, one way to respect the departed is to burn paper items – replicas of parts of their mortal life – in their honor.
Au Yeung Ping Chi, owner of Hong Kong’s Bo Wah Effigies Shop, has created a new niche market making paper effigies of popular electronic gadgets. These effigies are then set alight and burned in the honor of the recently deceased person.
Devices created include video game consoles, mobile phones, digital cameras and even designer handbags.
