Over the last couple of months we’ve droned on about the onset of drones. There have been a couple that have grabbed our attention – most notably, the Parrot AR Drone – and here’s another: The Hummingbird Nano Air Vehicle.
This one though, is not your average, play-with-at-home drone. Rather, this little drone – and yes, it is little – comes with a US$4 million price tag. If you could buy one, that is.
To quote from the Aerovironment website, “AV is developing the Nano Air Vehicle (NAV) under a DARPA sponsored research contract to develop a new class of air vehicle systems capable of indoor and outdoor operation. Employing biological mimicry at an extremely small scale, this unconventional aircraft could someday provide new reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities in urban environments.”
What that means is that they’ve developed a drown that looks like a little hummingbird, but if fitted with surveillance equipment, it could be used to spy on …. anyone!
