Sick of paying for Microsoft Office? Well, this week on The Gadget Grill, we tackled The Office Revolution and showed you a couple of ways where you could save some money with some free alternatives to Microsoft’s hugely successful office suite that are just as good and in some cases better. If you don’t believe us, check out our article for more about it.
We also did a live on-the-air test of a new gadget designed to give you a cigarette that you can use in places that you normally can’t. The E-Cigarette is one of the more unusual useless gadgets we’ve seen in a while and just to see how it works, Leigh tested it live on the air. Hear him cough, croak, and generally feel what this new gadget is like.
All of that plus the usual smattering of news and a whole heap more. Check out this week’s Gadget Grill and if you’re coming in from iTunes’ podcast feed, be sure to leave us a review to tell us what you think!

Next week, we’re doing an Australia Day Eve special and taking a look at the technology, inventions, and innovations that Australians came up with. Be sure to check us out when we salute the Aussie geeks!
Tonight’s playlist was more jazzy than it has been recently. In any case, here’s what we played tonight…
- Jimi Hendrix – Hey Joe (from “BBC Sessions”)
- Ray Brown Trio – Mainstem (from “Live at Starbucks”)
- Rufus Wainwright – Shadows (from “Poses”)
- Kevin Eubanks – Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (from “Live At Bradley’s”)
- Imogen Heap – Spooky (from “Just Like Heaven”)
You guys used the electronic cigarette to attract attention but didn’t give it a serious try. I could take anything serious and make a joke out of it. So easy!
Don’t take these jokers’ advice. Go and check out videos and “real” information on these electronic cigarettes. So many wrong things… you don’t just have to charge them on your pc. They come with wall chargers and car chargers.
Many people have improved their health by switching to e-cigs and many people have used them to quit. The e-cig is a totally viable option to be more healthy and delivers a real smoking experience. I also do a podcast. How about I test “your” podcast on the air and just make fun of it?
For those who are interested in the “real deal”…. check out these websites with “real” information. No jokes.

Let the people themselves decide!
Entertaining, but not very informative… 🙂
To attract attention? No. we used it because we felt it would be entertaining. You are welcome to believe that it’s a serious device, but we note that you have an interest in selling it. That you try to make money from this device. It comes as no surprise that you are so defensive about this.
I have edited your post, as the three links to your website was way over the top. One is way too many in my opinion, but I am feeling benevolent today.
Entertainment was the goal. Nothing more, nothing less. I’m glad you enjoyed the item within its intended context.
Oh yes, with the device that we had in the studio, the only method of charging it was through the USB port of a computer. Please do not make mis-statements when you are not aware of the facts.
Do these electronic cigarettes really feel like the real thing? I watched a video at this website but don’t know what to think. Are there any real smokers out there that aren’t promoting a product that can tell me what you really think?
hi I am from Germany and in Germany we don’t discuss matters like the one you just have written about. I am happy I found your website because now it is not a secret anymore. I will start telling the people in Germany about this!
Last time I checked, I wasn’t in Germany.
