At the start of this week I was saddened to learn of the passing of one of the world’s great musician’s, Allen Toussaint. Toussaint was a stalwart of the New Orleans music scene, being recognised as a composer, producer, writer, as well as one of the best composers of his – my – time.
A true gentleman, and a person whose work I have loved and enjoyed from a time before I even knew his name. The first three musical pieces on this week’s show are works that he has had some sort of a hand in, from performing, writing, or producing.
The River In Reverse – Allen Toussaint and Elvis Costello
The Throb – Fortune Teller
LaBelle – Lady Marmalade
Imagine – John Lennon
Cal Tjader – Poinciana
