Well, maybe that title’s a bit over the top, but as passengers, and expecially on longer haul flights, the technology that we take with us, and the tech that the airlines provides to us for our in-flight enjoyment, does assume a high level of importance.
Last week the Australian Business Traveler website, AusBT.com.au, carried a story of some technology from Panasonic revealing that the Japanese technology company was releasing some android powered tablet devices that were suitable for installation in the seat backs of the seats on planes, as the EX3 in-flight entertainment system.
Here we are talking about in-flight systems for passengers that go way beyond the mere provision of entertainment though. With a capacitive touch screen they’re looking at providing interactive systems that would permit you to order your meals, surf the internet, check your emails …. the list is truly endless.
The EX3 is powered by Google’s Android operating system, and I look forward to hearing more about the development of this sort of technology in the future.
